Ed case: 2010 jewish community hero semifinalist

www.jewishcommunityheroes.org When I met and then married my non-Jewish husband, we couldn’t find a rabbi who would perform our ceremony. Thanks to Ed Case, who acquired, grew and revitalized InterfaithFamily.com in 2001, finding the resources and information about having a Jewish wedding and raising a Jewish family as an interfaith couple has gotten much easier. The rate of intermarriage now approaches 50%. If only a small number of interfaith couples raise their children as Jews, the liberal Jewish community will dwindle; if more than a majority do, it will grow in numbers, and be enriched. Engaging interfaith families in Jewish life is the single greatest opportunity to ensure the growth and vibrancy of the liberal Jewish community. Under InterfaithFamily.com’s theory of change, in order for interfaith families to engage in Jewish life, they need to be attracted to it, they need to feel knowledgeable and comfortable with it, and they need to experience welcome when they approach Jewish professionals and organizations. What motivates Ed Case, as well as the Board and staff of InterfaithFamily.com, is the firm belief that engaging in Jewish life can be a source of profound meaning and value for interfaith couples and their children. Many Jewish leaders say that intermarriage is destroying the future of the Jewish population. What motivates Ed’s work is proving them wrong.
